A New Energy Efficient Self-Build Farmers House in Suffolk.
Svenskhomes initially received a call from the customers back in 2022. they had just sold their farm and were looking to build a new energy efficient home situated on a retained piece of their farmland which had an old farm cottage, prime for re-development. As with most projects, it started with an initial visit to the Svenskhomes showroom in Ipswich, where we discussed the project in full and obtained a good understanding of the client’s requirements. With the use of our inspirational brochure, they could then go and design the home of their dreams.
The clients had their own design aspirations and employed Andrew Watkins, from Mullins Dowse architects. Andrew designed the house to suit both their lifestyle and the plot they had retained for their retirement home. Once the new design was finished, Andrew submitted the planning application which was approved without delay.
As soon as the planning application was approved, the old house was demolished, and the ground works and drainage were installed in very good time. The foundations and scaffolding were all in place in advance of the house arriving from Sweden early October 2023; the building was water-tight and ready for first fix electrics and plumbing to commence in the following month. This is the benefit of a house from Sweden, as while the house is being manufactured in the factory, the groundworks can commence at the same time. This leads to a saving of up to 2 months of construction time on site. Overall, the shell-erect and structurally sound service, leaving the house ready for first fix electrics and plumbing internally, cladding work and roof works externally only took 4 weeks. This allowed for extra time saving on the overall build, potentially saving up to 4 months.
From the very start, we found the all-round efficiency of Svenskhomes very impressive.
Having lived in an old farmhouse all my life with an EPC rating of F, it has been a joy to live in
an A rated home. With the Isover sound proofing insulation and triple glazed windows and doors installed, the house is amazingly quiet.
An ideal home for retirement.
Thank you very much Svenskhomes.
